wedensday, wedensday and friday

Where do we even begin?

First of all it's Thursday. The world is just one day ahead of reality. We arived in the airport Wednesday noon, where we ended up having to pack our deodorant and sunblock in a box by itself because the guy at the counter gave us the wrong information (luckily we were about 5 hours early so we had plenty of time), and landed in Narita airport 11 hours later to a Japanese security guard nonchalantly asking "So.. Have you ever been to Christania?" luckily he didn't call our bluff and we were let into the country without any problems. Even though we landed 11 hours later to a timedifference 8 hours ahead of Denmark it's clearly still Wednesday, at least that's the logic of a brain that hasn't slept for around 19 hours and arrives in a country at 10 in the morning.

Since our Inside Japanese (henceforth Luna) couldn't meet up with us until 18:00 we had about 8 hours to kill. First things first we had to get away from the airport, a trip ending up taking us about an hour and a half, because we felt like saving about 14 kroner, by paying this un-reasonable fee would've saved ourself half an hour in train...

We decided our first trip should be going to Akihabara, the electric city, to have a look for a jisho (a jisho is a japanese to english electric dictionary), we soon found out that this was as far as we would get with our english as almost none of the merchants knew no more english than yes or no, cheap or expensive etc. we quickly gave up gathering usefull information about the various different models and priceranges here. (sumimaseeen, eigo wo hanashimasu ka? - hanashimasen, was the answer. luckily we managed to explain that we needed a converter for our european charger and we got out of there paying only about 12dkr, our first bargain has turned a success, yay!)

but having used up all our beginners luck we decided to go check out the area where Luna lives and return to the electric city another day, and in the mean time prepare ourselves further to make a good bargain and buy a good jisho.

ok, next stop Asagaya, this is the area which Luna lives, out here, we haven't met a single person speaking english besides the in information booths.

We walked around for the remaining hours and was met by Luna and her former room mate and escorted to her, very small but very charming, apartment. (picture of the view)
This evening we had our first japanese dinner, udon, fish and japanese beer and sake followed by "japanese sleeping style" aka. sleeping on the floor with a blanket - actually it was really nice and several times better than SAS.
The next morning we went to our first big mall, unfortunately we don't remember the name but it was just next to another big center called mylord(milord in japanese), in here we found a bag for Simon, which to everyones surprice has a very specific taste in fashion and bought the most expensive one for the humble price of 18000 yen, around 1100dkr. We also went to Bic Camera to look for a camera and Simon again showing his great shopaholic skills and picking the expensive camera, but it was definately worth it, it costs 29000yen or close to 2000dkr, but it has a very extraordinary performance with zoom for a relatively small digital camera.
-when you enter the shops in the morning, all the shopworkers and owners in the malls stand outside their shop greeting everyone passing by and bidding them a good day, we felt like we entered an amusement park because of all this people acting towards us, and everyone else entering, without any action taken from us other than walking in, it seemed kinda practiced.
The future posts will contain a lot more photos since we do now have a good camera at our disposal.
